Using ZOO to Improve Adhesion Reliability During Pre-Endodontic Build-Up

Usefulness of ZOO (Coolex) in This Procedure

In my clinical practice, I have never encountered a case where rubber dam isolation could not be placed for root canal treatment itself, so I generally do not use ZOO during the endodontic procedure.

However, I often struggled with cases involving excessive saliva when creating the pre-endodontic build-up (the wall used to isolate the tooth before treatment).

For me, this build-up eventually becomes part of the final core foundation.
Therefore, reliable adhesion is extremely important.

If saliva contamination reduces the bonding strength, there is a risk that the entire core and crown could eventually debond, which is unacceptable in clinical practice.

ZOO (known internationally as Coolex) allows both mouth opening and continuous saliva evacuation at the same time.
Because of this, my left hand becomes free, enabling better mirror control and improved clinical efficiency.

Furthermore, in rare cases where saliva flow is extremely high and saliva rises even under rubber dam isolation, ZOO can also be used together with the rubber dam to manage the moisture.

With ZOO available, I am convinced that my clinical level has improved significantly.

It is truly an excellent invention. Author H・T DDS Tokyo, Japan
